SCIENTIFIC COORDINATOR

Andrea Arrighetti (Ecole normale supérieure/AOROC)

Andrea Arrighetti is a Researcher H2020 – Marie Sklodowska Curie Individual Fellowship at the École normale supérieure – Université PSL (AOROC UMR 8546) and a Ph.D. in “Medieval Archaeology” at the Human Sciences Department of the University of L’Aquila. He was a Contract Professor and a Granted Researcher at the University of Siena, University of L’Aquila and University of Florence. He is specialized in the Archaeology of Architecture, Archeoseismology and Surveying. His main interests are in the study of the construction systems of historical buildings, especially medieval buildings, in Italy and abroad, and experimenting with photogrammetry applications and Structure from Motion applications for recording Cultural Heritage. At the european level he is involved in three Horizon 2020 project with Italian, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese universities and companies.

SUPERVISORS

Hélène Dessales (Ecole normale supérieure/AOROC – Host Institution)

Associate professor of classical archaeology at the École normale supérieure (Département des Sciences de l’Antiquité, AOROC) – PSL. Her research focuses on the archaeology of building techniques in the Roman world (Italy, France, Spain), with a particular focus on hydraulic works and building processes. She has authored several monographs on these topics and is one of the editors of the series Arqueología de la contrucción I-III (2008-2012). She has conducted several research projects in Pompeii and and recently published a volume on the Villa of Diomedes (2020). In particular, she has coordinated the RECAP program, 2015-2019, funded by the ANR (Agence nationale de la Recherche; http://recap.huma-num.fr), on post-seismic reconstructions in Pompeii, contributing to an atlas of building techniques in Roman Campania (https://acor.huma-num.fr/).

Giovanna Bianchi (University of Siena – Secondment)

PhD in Medieval Archaeology, since 2006 she has been a confirmed Associate Professor in Christian and Medieval Archaeology at the University of Siena where she teaches Medieval Archaeology, and Archaeology of Architectureand she is head of the Laboratory of Archaeology of Architecture (www.laarch.altervista.org). She has been UNISI coordinator of an European Research Counsil Advanced project (host institution UNISI). She is currently UNISI coordinator of the national project within a national programme (FARE Ricerca Eccellente in Italia, host institution UNISI) and Principal Investigator of the national project PRIN (Progetti di Rilevante Interesse Nazionale). She is currently Partecipant Investigator of an Australian Research Council Project. She also sits on the Scientific Advisors of an ERC Advanced project with host institution CSIC in Madrid, which studies medieval economic growth in relation to stone-built architecture.

TEAM

Barbara Gelli (University of Siena)

Barbara Gelli received her PhD in Medieval History at the University of Siena. She was a fellow and grant research at the Department of Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage of the same university and participates in national and international research projects with Italian and French universities and research institutes. Her research interests focus mainly on the study of factions and political languages in Renaissance Italy but also on military, economic, geographical and social history between the late Middle Ages and the early modern age. She has participated as a speaker at numerous national and international conferences, mainly focused on the themes of politics and diplomacy in the Renaissance.
She plays the role of secretary of the Senese Academy of Intronati and editorial secretary of the corresponding magazine “Bullettino Senese di Storia Patria”, she is also part of the editorial board of the magazine “Miscellanea Storica della Valdelsa” and is a member of the editorial committee of the series of Geography and Territory of the Department of Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage of the University of Siena “Trame nello Spazio”.

Giovanni Minutoli (University of Florence)

Researcher (Law 240/10) of Restoration (Icar 19) at the Department of Architecture of the University of Florence. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence; at the same university he obtained his doctorate in Architectural Materials and Structures in 2011. Qualified as professor of the second rank in the competitive sector 08/E2 Restoration. Between 2003 and 2021 he participated in various national and international conferences. He has more than 100 publications, including articles in journals, contributions in volumes and monographs, in the field of restoration of historic buildings and historical centres. Since 2014, he has been professor of the Restoration Laboratory course at the University of Florence and Pavia. In the academic years 2018-2019 he teaches Restoration at the Polytechnic of Turin and in 2019-2020 he teaches Restoration at the University of Basilicata. Visiting professsor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2016. Founding member of the company SISMA – Sistemi Integrati di Monitoraggio Architettonico of which he was president from 2015 to 2021. Founding member of the REUSO Association, of which he is treasurer, involved in the conservation of architectural heritage from both a practical technical and popular scientific point of view.

Viviana Castelli (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology)

Researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Bologna Section, Ancona office. Born in Siena (1958), graduated in Literature in Florence (1983). Since 1987 has been doing historical research on earthquakes for seismic risk reduction purposes, until 1999 on behalf of the National Group for Earthquake Defence/CNR, since 2000, at ING/INGV. She participates in the drafting of the Parametric Catalogue of Italian Earthquakes (1999 and subsequent updates, current version CPTI15 v. 4.0, of 2022) and in the activities of the INGV EDURISK group that promotes the culture of prevention in collaboration with the National Department of Civil Protection.

Marco Repole (Freelance)

Photographer and 3D Artist specialized in photogrammetric surveys and digital reconstructions. He has participated in various academic projects in Italy, Europe and the Middle East. Freelance and consultant in particular in the world of cultural heritage, he is head of the archaeological survey for the ERFS mission (Epygraphy and Reasearch Field School) in the valley of the Nobles in Luxor in Egypt and for the ARCE.

Raffaella Leporini (Freelance)

Raffaella Leporini has a Master’s Degree in Archaeology from University of Florence.
During her course of study, she participated in various cross-disciplinary projects, acquiring Archaeology of Architecture and Archeoseismology proficiencies. Her main field of expertise is the analysis of medieval and post-medieval buildings, with the aim of studying the construction systems and their history


STUDENTS

Valeria Razzante (University of Padua)

Archaeology student enrolled in the second year of the Master’s Degree Course in Archaeological Sciences of the University of Padua (DbB – Dipartimento di Beni Culturali).
Following the same path of the bachelor experience at the University of Siena (DSSBC – Dipartimento di Scienze Storiche e dei Beni Culturali), she has been focusing and involved in medieval archaeology and architecture, with further interest in archaeosismology.
Currently in Padua, through her master’s thesis project, she is finally inserting a specific training in the archaeometric study of construction materials and binders.
